As part of the Global Flyways Summit held in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, partners of the BirdLife International global network, government officials, leaders of conservation organizations, and international financial institutions made a historic commitment.

During the summit, "The Nairobi Flyways Declaration" was signed, marking a new chapter in the global map of migratory bird and habitat conservation. FPWC, as the official BirdLife partner in Armenia, has joined this global initiative, reaffirming Armenia's vital role in conserving international flyways.

Key messages and goals of the Declaration:

Birds as indicators of planetary health: The state of migratory birds directly reflects the health of ecosystems across the entire planet. Their conservation is not merely about saving individual species, but a guarantee of ecosystem stability.

Flyways without borders: Birds recognize no borders or visas. Crossing continents, oceans, and mountain ranges, they prove that nature is a single interconnected organism. No nation can protect migratory species alone; seamless transboundary cooperation is essential.

Ecological network of protected areas: The Declaration calls for the creation, expansion, and restoration of a reliable, ecologically coherent network of protected areas along all flyways.

Global alliance: To confront these threats, governments, scientists, financial donors, and local communities must unite their efforts to deliver impact at scale.

Every signature beneath "The Nairobi Flyways Declaration" is a promise made to birds and to the international community. Armenia and the Caucasus region represent one of the most critical crossroads of international flyways. Through the Caucasus Wildlife Refuge (CWR) and its ongoing environmental initiatives, FPWC continues to consistently expand protected corridors, securing safe stopovers and nesting habitats for large mammals as well as migratory birds.
