IMPACT

Since 2002, FPWC has been at the forefront of protecting Armenia's wildlife and natural heritage. Through a multidimensional approach innovative solutions and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, we secure the critical benefits that nature provides to humanity.

Privately protected area

To safeguard the region's unique and endemic biodiversity,(FPWC established the Caucasus Wildlife Refuge (CWR) in 2011. Serving as the first privately protected area in the South Caucasus, the CWR has evolved over the years and now spans a territory of 30,000 hectares. Situated adjacent to the Khosrov Forest State Nature Reserve (IUCN category A1) and extending to the border of Nakhijevan (Azerbaijan), it plays a vital role in establishing an essential ecological connectivity corridor for endangered wildlife along the State Nature Reserve's border.

Wildlife Rescue Center

Founded by the FPWC in 2016, the Wildlife Rescue Center (WRC) is the first of its kind in Armenia and the broader region. The WRC staff rescues, treats, and rehabilitates orphaned, displaced, injured, and mistreated wild animals, including native, rare, common, or exotic species. In partnership with the International Animal Rescue (IAR), the WRC focuses on the bear rescue project, rescuing 35 bears kept in captivity under miserable conditions and providing them with veterinary and rehabilitation treatment. The WRC plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being of rescued animals and contributes to wildlife conservation efforts in Armenia.

Forest Landscape Restoration

FPWC has initiated a landscape restoration program within the Caucasus Wildlife Refuge (CWR), focusing on tree-planting activities as a crucial element for habitat conservation, biodiversity protection, land fertility restoration, and erosion prevention. The establishment of a pioneering native tree nursery in Armenia utilizes the innovative Target Plant Concept methodology, which enables successful cultivation of native tree species in our nurseries that are challenging to grow through traditional bare-root methods commonly used in the country.
