On February 26th, 2016, the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) along with its partner Fauna & Flora International (FFI) summarized the results of main findings and recommendations for the project Assessment of Wildlife Trade in Armenia at the joint workshop.

The workshop was attended by the representatives of local and international NGOs, civil society, Ministry of Nature Protection, Ministry of Agriculture and the RA Ministry of Agriculture State Service for Food Safety of the Ministry of Agriculture Veterinary Inspectorate, as well as the RA Ministry of Finance Customs Control department representatives.

The main goal of the project was to address wildlife trade issues in Armenia focusing on the following 3 main objectives:

•  Determine priority species & research market chains
•  Determine the legislative framework relating to both national & international trade
•  Develop recommendations & strategies

The project was implemented within 6 months from September 2015 to February 2016 and included situation analysis and market surveys in capital Yerevan, as well as field surveys and interviews throughout Armenia in 14 communities and 3 targeted regions (Ararat, Vayots Dzor and Gegharkunik) involving 96 hunters, 43 fishers and 62 plant collectors.

The main findings of the survey and the legislation analysis with recommendations for interventions will be summarized in a joint report and presented to the Ministry of Nature Protection in Armenia for further actions.
