Ruben Khachatryan, Director of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), spoke at the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria 2025 Annual Conference, presenting two key conservation initiatives from Armenia:
Mitigating Human–Bear Conflict through Nature-Based Solutions
Returning Orphaned Bear Cubs to the Wild, including monitoring methods based on scientific research and modern technologies
In his role as Vice Coordinator of the EAZA Brown Bear EEP, Mr. Khachatryan emphasized the growing strength of the EAZA community as a partner in conservation, uniting the expertise of zoological institutions with the needs of in-situ conservation efforts. EAZA member zoos play a crucial role in supporting field-based projects and contributing directly to the protection of species in their natural habitats.
FPWC’s vision is to expand collaboration with a broader network of EAZA member zoos to further strengthen in-situ conservation, ensuring that wildlife thrives where it truly belongs — in the wild.
