After one year, Zangak and Bambak, the two orphaned bear cubs rescued last spring by the FPWC in Lori region, are back to the wild nature.

Our GPS radio collars indicate that today, 5 days after getting out of enclosure, the bear cubs are safely roaming in the area of release.

Zangak and Bambak are now old enough to survive in the wild. They went through all the stages of adaptation and passed the “final tests” successfully, displaying excellent preparedness to forage for food or resist possible natural threats in wilderness.

On May 4 2017, FPWC received an emergency call from the National Environmental Inspectorate of the RA Ministry of Nature Protection to organise the rescue of two orphaned bear cubs found along Pambak River in Lori region. Our rapid action team immediately headed to Lori to rescue the bear cubs.

The cubs passed all the  required medical examinations at the newly equipped Veterinary Clinic of Yerevan  Zoo, and were transferred then to the quarantine station of the Wildlife Rescue Center in the Caucasus Wildlife Refuge (CWR), Ararat province.

Here, apart from permanent caretaking, the specialists of the rescue center elaborated and implemented a diverse enrichment program for the cubs, step by step preparing them to the return into the wild.

Zangak’s and Bambak’ rescue project has at all stages been supported by the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, the International Animal Rescue (IAR) and VivaCell-MTS.
