Recently, the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) carried out another rescue operation for a bear cub in the wild. On December 1, 2020, the FPWC Wildlife Rescue Center (WRC) received an alarm։ In Goghtanik village of Vayots Dzor region, a wild bear cub was entangled in the nets of the garden, remained in “captivity”, not being able to escape.
WRC team immediately moved to the mentioned place to rescue the animal. After conducting an area survey, the animal was put Into the sleep by means of a special remote anesthesia device. To ensure the safety of the inhabitants of the area and the cub, the animal moved not far from the village and returned to the wild. In rescue operation took part representatives from the Inspectorate for Nature Protection and Mineral Resources and the Police of RA.
The Great bear rescue project in Armenia is implemented in partnership with the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and the International Animal Rescue (IAR). More than a dozen bears rescued from unfavorable conditions in different private areas of Armenia have received shelter at the Wildlife Rescue Center.
The FPWC once again calls on everyone to refrain from direct contact with any wild animal and from all types of illegal hunting.
