The library after the great armenian scientist in “Gnishik” visitors center

The territories of Gnishik village of Vayots Dzor region are rich in rare, endangered and endemic plant species. The president of the Armenian Botanical Society, author and scientific advisor of the last publication of “The Red Book of Armenia” (2010), Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Eleonora (Nora) Tsolakovna Gabrielyan has made a great contribution in the study of this.

12 endemic species of the Armenian flora are named after her. The Galanthus artjuschenkoae Gabrieljan (snowdrop) – – is one of the endemic flowers of Armenia named after Eleonora Gabrielyan (known from the previous post). It is found in 2 floristic regions. The main threat is the collection of the flowers as valuable decorative plant and deforestation. It was included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia as Galanthus transcaucasicus under Category 1: Endangered species. It is included in the 2nd Annex of CITES as representative of the genus Galanthus. It is not included in the Annexes of the Bern Convention.

The Gnishik Visitor Center also include a library named after Armenian botanist-biologist, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Eleonora Gabrielyan, whose focus will be on the flora and related studies.
