The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) continues to take active steps toward mitigating human-wildlife conflict and enhancing community safety levels in Armenia.
Currently, the installation of special informational and awareness signs has commenced across 12 settlements of the Yeghegis enlarged community. This initiative is being implemented within the framework of the project "DECREASING CLIMATE CHANGE ACCELERATED HUMAN-WILDLIFECONFLICT IN ARMENIA," which is funded by the UK Government under the Darwin Initiative.
The newly installed signs aim to address several key issues within the communities:
Raising public safety and awareness: In areas directly adjacent to bear habitats, local residents and tourists will receive necessary and practical information regarding rules of conduct.
Supporting wildlife conservation: Through increased awareness, potential aggression toward animals is reduced, highlighting their valuable role in the local ecosystem.
Reducing conflict through proper communication: Well-organized informational campaigns help de-escalate human-bear relations, aligning dialogue and prevention with international ecotourism and environmental standards.
These signs are not just information boards; they are a vital tool for fostering a new culture of safety in the communities. Effective communication and awareness form the foundation that minimizes secondary damage and ensures harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife.
This project in the Yeghegis community presents a coordinated and innovative approach to emerging environmental challenges caused by climate change, bringing education, access to information, and community involvement together for a single, unified goal.
