Rescue of a Young Brown Bear on Getap-Shatin Road

Published on 01/10/2024

Last night, our dedicated team at the FPWC’s Wildlife Rescue Center participated in an emergency rescue operation to aid a nearly two-year-old male brown bear involved in an accident on the Getap-Shatin road.

The young bear was struck by a car, sustaining serious injuries that left him unable to move. The driver immediately called for help, acting responsibly to ensure the animal received prompt assistance. At midnight, a team comprising WRC specialists, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, and members of the Environmental Inspectorate arrived at the scene.

To safely provide medical care, the bear was gently sedated. Our veterinarian administered first aid on the spot, including surgical treatment for his damaged jaw. Following initial treatment, the bear was successfully transported to FPWC's Wildlife Rescue Center (WRC), where he is now receiving professional care and rehabilitation.

Our team is closely monitoring his condition and remains committed to his full recovery.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all individuals and organizations involved in this rescue operation for their swift action and collaboration. This incident highlights the importance of wildlife conservation and the need for cautious driving in areas inhabited by wild animals.
