A significant step has been taken in the Yeghegis community of Vayots Dzor to prevent losses caused by unexpected bear visits. The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) has donated 15 modern electric fences, valued at 15 million AMD, securing approximately 18 hectares of land in Shatin, Qaraglukh, Yeghegis, and neighboring settlements.
This initiative represents more than a financial investment—it is a long-term guarantee of safety for 18 hectares of community land in Yeghegis.
Safety for local farmers: The fences help prevent severe economic losses, particularly damage to beehives.
Safety for bears: The electric fences operate on a humane and wildlife-safe principle, causing no harm to animals.
The initiative was implemented within the framework of the project “Mitigating Human–Wildlife Conflict Due to Climate Change in Armenia,” funded by the UK Government through the Darwin Initiative.
By addressing human–wildlife conflict through practical, nature-based solutions, FPWC continues to promote coexistence between communities and wildlife across Armenia.
