On November 21, European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) representative and Yerevan Zoo mentor János Szánthó, Amsterdam’s Artis Royal Zoo representative Warren Spencer, and Director of Yerevan Zoo Ruben Khachatryan attended a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, Aram Sukiasyan. The importance of the main layout of the zoo, the planning of the animal collection, and the significance and uniqueness of EAZA membership were some of the main topics discussed during the meeting.
The guests had traveled to Armenia on the invitation of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), as mentors of the Yerevan Zoo. The Artis Royal Zoo is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and one of the oldest zoos of mainland Europe. EAZA, in turn, facilitates cooperation within regional zoo community towards the goal of education, research and conservation. The Yerevan Zoo is a candidate member of EAZA.
