Notwithstanding the fact that some brown bears are listed in the Red Data Book of Armenia and self-willed capture of those bears is prohibited by law, there are dozens of captive brown bears in Armenia, which are kept in bad conditions. In case of somewhat danger, the owners of those bears hide the animals and transport them to other places. There is another possible dreadful case as well: in the regional restaurants of Armenia bear meat is occasionally offered.
The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) has initiated an expansive bear rescue project. It involves an Inclusive cooperation both with international and domestic NGO`s and state organizations, as well as a comprehensive approach for the resolution of the problem ranging from the revision of the legislation to the establishment of enclosures for the rescued bears.
And the SOS Zoo and Bear Rescue social media animal activist group organize fundraising for the establishment of enclosures for the rescued bears.
FPWC possesses all the means for the transportation, medical assistance, and further care providence to rescued bears.
